Google has released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread source code, one day after Samsung's Nexus S smartphone went on sale in the US. The Nexus S is the first device to run the new Android operating system and comes equipped with Near Field Communications technology used to make micro-payments via the smartphone.
Jean-Baptiste Queru, a Google software engineer working on the Android Open-Source Project, said in a blog post that developers will be able to download the code from Kernel.org.

Queru warned that even though the Samsung Nexus S was designed to carry out open source work, it won't be good idea to crack the phone right now as it could well get bricked.
