RedHat: postfix multiple vulnerabilities
Summary
Summary
Postfix is a Mail Transport Agent (MTA).Two security issues have been found in Postfix that affect the Postfixpackages in Red Hat Linux 7.3, 8.0, and 9. Postfix versions before 1.1.12 allow an attacker to bounce-scan privatenetworks, or use the daemon as a DDoS tool by forcing the daemon to connectto an arbitrary service at an arbitrary IP address and receiving either abounce message or by analyzing timing. The Common Vulnerabilities andExposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CAN-2003-0468 tothis issue.Postfix versions from 1.1 up to and including 1.1.12 have a bug where aremote attacker could send a malformed envelope address and:1) cause the queue manager to lock up until an entry is removed from thequeue or,2) lock up the SMTP listener, leading to a DoS.The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) hasassigned the name CAN-2003-0540 to this issue.Users of Postfix are advised to upgrade to these erratum packages, whichcontain a version of Postfix 1.1.12 with the addition of a security patchand is not vulnerable to either of these issues.Red Hat would like to thank Michal Zalewski for discovering and disclosingthe flaws and to Wietse Venema for providing patches.
Solution
Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.
To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filenames]
where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the
desired RPMs.
Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:
up2date
This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
